We truly believe that Bloomington is a remarkable, one-of-a-kind place. The Bloomington Streets Alliance was formed so that everyone can enjoy the amenities this city has to offer, from our parks and trails to our commercial areas.
Too often, we have seen street projects implemented with little regard for walking, biking, and transit. Car-dependency may be the norm for suburbs, but it is our belief that a majority of Bloomington residents want the choice safely get around this wonderful city without being forced to rely on their cars.
We also believe that many residents who value stronger streets are not always represented in public discussions. We will help these voices be heard by providing clear information, encouraging public dialogue, and advocating for streets that serve the community and allow everyone to easily and comfortably bike, walk, and take transit.
Safety first. Streets should be safe and comfortable for people of all ages and abilities, regardless of how they choose to get around.
Choice. Everyone should have the freedom to walk, bike, take transit, or drive.
Community. Smart transportation and thoughtful land use should work together to strengthen neighborhoods, businesses, and public spaces.
Fact-based dialogue. We believe respectful dialogue grounded in data and transparency leads to more constructive conversations.
Monitor and share transportation and land use projects and studies.
Explain proposals in plain language.
Organize community members around key issues.
Attend and summarize public meetings and hearings.
Connect residents with facts and opportunities to make their voice heard.
